People Coming Together

Snowdrop Argyll brings people together through welcoming, inclusive activities that reduce isolation, boost sense of purpose and belonging and strengthen community wellbeing.

Lochgilphead Camerados Public Living Room

Monday | 12pm – 2pm

On Mondays you’ll find us in the Centre.

Occasionally you might spot us sporadically popping up on the Lochgilphead Front Green or maybe even this year in a street near you.

We bring out the furniture, fill flasks full of tea and coffee and see who comes along.

There will be tea, biscuits, a game of Connect 4, conversation, laughter or simply people sitting together for a while.

There’s no agenda.

Just people being more alongside one another.

As Camerados, we believe:

“The answer to our problems is each other.”

Everyone is welcome at our Public Living Room every Monday from 12pm to 2pm.

Camerados 6 principles:

  • Mix with people who are not like you

  • It’s OK to disagree respectfully

  • No fixing — just be alongside one another

  • Ask someone who is struggling to help you

  • It’s OK to be a bit rubbish sometimes

  • To be silly is to be human

Come as you are.

Our work is not only about supporting our own community space. We actively encourage and help other groups and organisations to create Public Living Rooms of their own, sharing learning, encouragement, and practical support through the Community Callers network.

As a result, other organisations across Argyll have gone on to develop their own Public Living Rooms, including Ardrishaig Primary School, The Community Shop, and With You.

We believe strong communities grow through sharing ideas, supporting one another, and helping other organisation to create spaces where everyone feels valued and included.

Monthly Activities and Community Connections

Men’s Pie and Pint

Our monthly Men’s Pie and Pint gathering was created in response to conversations with local men within our community. Historically, men’s wellbeing groups had low attendance, yet conversations told us something important — men did want connection, but often not in traditional “support group” settings.

What was missing was a relaxed, pub-like environment where men could come together socially without pressure and without alcohol needing to be part of it.

The Men’s Pie and Pint began three years ago when we started bringing people together for Sporting Memories sessions and has continued to be well attended and well-enjoyed ever since. Local men come together over a pie and alcohol-free pint to chat, laugh, share stories and support one another in an informal and welcoming space.

Connecting Aloud

Connecting Aloud is our monthly singing session and grew from our earlier Singing for Fun group, which sadly stopped during the pandemic.

Again, conversations with local people helped shape the decision to bring singing back into the Centre. Time and time again people spoke about the joy, connection and emotional lift that music brings.

We believe that music is a medicine.

Our singing afternoons are full of song, smiles and shared memories, with everyone encouraged to simply join in and enjoy the moment. Heading into the weekend after a Friday afternoon of singing together brings a real sense of joy, connection and wellbeing.
